Biometric Access Control - Your Fingerprint Door Lock
Prior to the introduction of biometric technology, access
control systems all had one serious flaw. You could be sure
of which card was swiped, but you could never be sure of who
was holding it. By using a biometric access control system it is possible
to control who has access to where and when.
The ability to control, monitor and restrict access has reached
a new level because of biometric technology - the fingerprint door lock system. It is now possible
to safely and conveniently control, limit, monitor and audit
physical access to any area you designate.
How Does A Fingerprint Door Lock Work?
Biometric access control systems typically use the authentication
process. Many different biometric types are suitable for access
control, each having their own unique benefits. Finger scanning
is the most commonly used biometric type when it comes to
access control so we will use it to provide an example of
how biometric access control works.
To enrol a user, simply choose a PIN and then place their
finger on the scanner. A systems administrator will then determine
which area’s of access the person can have and at what
time. If the access control system is zoned into security
levels you must select the appropriate level of access for
the user. Enrolment is now complete. From this point forward
the user can gain access to their designated areas by simply
entering their PIN into the fingerscan device and placing
their finger on the scanner. Once the user is authenticated
access will be granted. Special features can be added for
duress or multiple person verifications for high security
areas.
A quality fingerscan system will integrate seamlessly with
your existing security system to create a total security solution.
You will never have to waste time replacing lost swipe cards
or keys ever again.
Why is a Fingerprint Door Lock Better than Non-Biometric Systems?
Non-biometric access control systems typically use keys or
swipe cards to grant access. Keys and swipe cards can be lost
or stolen, destroying the integrity of your security system.
A biometric system eliminates this problem. Every employee’s
fingerscan matrix is unique, meaning only its owner can use
it. Your biometric characteristics are with you for life.
With a biometric system you will never compromise the integrity
of your security system by the loss of a key, card or a pin
number that becomes known.
